UPDATE: I was back in Ft.Worth last week. A friend of mine had seen this post and pointed me toward this web site where I found more info on Sonny Poteet's '55 Belair. It seems only natural that I update the blog to point you to it too...
This week I was visiting Fort Worth and I let it slip that I was a '55 Chevy fan.
Oh, the mail you will get when you are identified as a fan of something - anything. Jokes start coming in - and pictures.
Here's one of my favorites. It's probably been around for a while but I haven't seen it before. Pay particular attention to that Speed Limit sign . . .
It looks like it was cropped. Anyone have a complete shot? Obviously a set piece. Maybe some insight perhaps?
Thanks for all the e-mails and questions about this shot. We now know what happen during this little 'ole road trip. I have a response concerning the genesis of the photograph. This is from Russel Miller:
"The officer in that pi. is my brother John Miller and the guy with the '55 is Sonny Poteet. Sonny's son made the speed limit sign and we found a small bit of un-opened freeway outside of Houston to take these shots. If you look in the background you can see the flare stacks from a couple of refineries. We spent about 1 and 1/2 hours up there setting stuff up and waiting for the sun to set just right. We went through 2 rolls of film and decided to use this shot because it is very rare!! If you look at the red and blue strobes in the spoiler of the Firebird they are both on at the same time! Actually one was going off while the other was coming on! Trust me that was purely accidental! LOL
Anyway they use the two cars at car shows, parades etc. and they sell the posters for $5.00 each and they donate 100% to the "Houston Food Bank".
Thanks, Russel Miller"
And we hear from his brother, John. Great looking automobiles you have there gentlemen.
"Kykurnal,
Thank you for your comments on my police car!
We have had loads of fun with it, it is a fully equipped patrol vehicle with emergency lights, siren police radios and front and rear digital Radar!
It sports a healthy 350 with a 6:71 supercharger and has a 150 hp shot NOS tank in the rear hatch!
It's in the shop at this time getting the rear end narrowed but hopefully it will be back on "patrol" this summer! Sonny(owner of 55) usually make as many car shows, swap meets and parades as we possibly can....so if you know of any comming up around mid-summer please let me know. We sell wall size posters (autographed) for $5.00 each and all othe money...100% goes to the Houston Food Bank. I also have some 5x7 and 8x10's that I usually give to people that want one. Well gotta go, take care and be sure to keep an eye in your rearview mirror!! LOL"
